GATOR BOWL

Joel and I are flying out to Jacksonville tomorrow Friday morning to cheer on our dawgs!! We are sooooo excited. Just a little background, for those who do not know... Both of Joel's parents are from Grand Rapids, Michigan and attended University of Michigan. 80% of his family lives in Michigan. Needless to say, Joel grew up a huge Wolverine fan.  His Saturdays as a child were filled with Big 10 games, no SEC for that family.

Joel as a youngin' decked out in maize and blue!

*Sidenote: I used to think Mr. Gary was saying amazin' blue! haha!!

I remember, while at MSU, several Saturday game days, when Joel would miss a MSU game because "Michigan is playing, and I can't miss it!!" That comment used to make me soooo mad! I wanted us to go to the Junction together and go to the game together, but he was more interested in watching Michigan. Now granted, Michigan had an AWESOME team, and we were...well... let's just say....CROOMED! While we were in college, Michigan had 46 wins and 17 losses, MSU had 19 wins and 40 losses. So you really can't blame the kid!! Since graduating, he has become more of an MSU fan. There is something about attending a school, giving money to a school, and going back and visiting! It makes us so proud to be BULLDOGS!!

Anywho, just imagine the look on Joel's face when we got the news that we were playing Michigan in a bowl game! He was floored! Originally, Don texted him the news and if anyone knows Donny boy, you know he is one little prankster...so Joel did not believe it for a second. He said "aww, there is no way...Don is just trying to get me excited." Then after the next 20 or so text messages (some from guys he had not spoken to in a long time, but that just KNEW Joel was dying!!) he started to believe it. He literally did not sit down for almost 2.5 hours!!! He had a perma-grin for about a week, and when he woke up the next day...he said "baby, pinch me please!"

Saturday will be one of his best memories EVER!! Whether MSU or Michigan wins, he will be happy either way. He did tell me that he was wearing maroon and ringing his cowbell. I wanted to get him a house divided t-shirt to wear, but there are NO shirts with MSU and Michigan...haha!! If he could have his way, he would probably wear something like this:

We are very excited for the long weekend! 2010 has been a great year for us...we are so blessed. Here is to hoping 2011 is even better!
